Memorial Portraiture

The tradition of Memorial Portraits goes back to the very earliest days of civilization. Although not as common as Granite and Bronze memorials, this venerable tradition is currently seeing something of a resurgence. In times when family members may live thousands of miles apart, a Memorial Portrait can serve as a loving tribute that surmounts the obstacle of physical distance.

Oil Paintings

Since 1990, Century Monuments' artists have worked as professional portraitists, specializing in oil painting and drawing. Although primarily schooled in the techniques of the Old European Masters, our artists are also fully-versed in the modern manner, and capable of working in any style imaginable.

Century Monuments' portraiture is produced entirely by hand, using only the highest quality pigments and canvas.

Ash Portraits

Century Monuments' skilled artists have developed a new technique using the ashes of a cremated individual as a pigment to paint an image. Only a small amount of ash is required per painting, so it is possible to have artwork produced in multiples, so that members of the deceased's extended family can share in this intimate remembrance.

In this unique process the ashes are combined with pigment and linseed oil. Ash portraits may be full-colour or the natural Sepia tone inherent in the ashes. The colour of ashes varies greatly between individuals, which adds to the uniqueness of this moving tribute.

Photographic Portraits

Century Monuments' can also provide photographic portraits on long-lasting porcelain or resin that may be permanently attached to granite or bronze monuments.

Provide us with a clear photograph, and we, in turn, shall provide you with an eternal image of your loved one, which can be shared for generations to come.
